Osteoporosis Osteoporosis Basics

Chronic back pain can be a sign of a bone fracture

Osteoporosis is often an overlooked cause of chronic back pain. Bone loss can weaken bones in the spine causing spinal fractures and compressions. Chronic back pain may, in some cases, be falsely attributed to osteoarthritis, a common joint condition affecting people as they age. And, some fractures may not produce any symptoms at all. A bone density test, which measures bone mass, is used to diagnose osteoporosis.
